Gimmighoul and Gholdengo are among the most unique Pokémon available in Pokémon GO.

Unlike most Pokémon, evolving Gimmighoul requires collecting 999 Gimmighoul Coins, which can only be obtained through special mechanics involving Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet connectivity.

This guide explains how to get Gimmighoul, earn Gimmighoul Coins efficiently, and evolve Gimmighoul into Gholdengo.

How to Get Gimmighoul in Pokémon GO

Currently, the only way to obtain Gimmighoul in Pokémon GO is by connecting your game to Pokémon Scarlet · Violet on Nintendo Switch.

Connect Pokémon GO to Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

To connect Pokémon GO to a Nintendo Switch, first open the Settings menu in Pokémon GO and select Connected Devices and Services.

With Bluetooth enabled on your mobile device, tap Nintendo Switch to put Pokémon GO into pairing mode.

In Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, press the X Button during gameplay to open the main menu, then press the Y Button to access the Options menu.

Enter the Poké Portal, select Mystery Gift, and choose the option to connect to Pokémon GO.

How to Send Postcards from Pokémon GO to Nintendo Switch

Once the connection has been established successfully, you can select and send a Postcard from your Postcard Book in Pokémon GO.

Postcards are collected from PokéStops and Gyms and can be accessed from either your Item Bag or Trainer Profile.

When sending a Postcard to the Nintendo Switch, Pokémon GO displays the action as sending a gift to the Nintendo Switch.

The Postcard can then be received through the Mystery Gift feature in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet.

Sending a Postcard rewards players in both games.

Pokémon GO1 × Coin Bag
1 × Golden Lure Module after every 5 successful Postcard sends
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet50 × Gimmighoul Coins

These rewards can only be claimed once per day and reset at midnight local time.

Note: If you already have a Golden Lure Module in your Item Bag, you will receive 5 Gimmighoul Coins instead.

Use the Coin Bag to Catch Gimmighoul

The Coin Bag functions similarly to Meltan’s Mystery Box and attracts Roaming Form Gimmighoul for 30 minutes.

The number of Gimmighoul encounters depends heavily on movement:

  • While standing still: approximately 1 spawn every 5 minutes
  • While walking: approximately 1 spawn every 40–50 seconds

For the highest number of encounters, activate the Coin Bag while walking outdoors.

Note: Event bonuses affecting Incense do not apply to the Coin Bag.

Use Golden Lure Modules to Get Gimmighoul Coins

A Golden Lure Module is awarded after sending Postcards five times.

When placed on a PokéStop, it transforms the PokéStop into a Golden PokéStop for 30 minutes. Spinning the Photo Disc rewards players with items, including Gimmighoul Coins.

Possible Gimmighoul Coin rewards are:

  • 5 Coins
  • 10 Coins
  • 15 Coins
  • 20 Coins
  • 25 Coins
  • Jackpot: 777 Coins

Additionally, there is a small chance that Roaming Form Gimmighoul will appear near a Golden PokéStop.

Note: Event bonuses that affect Lure Modules do not apply to Golden Lure Modules.

How to Get Gimmighoul Coins

All Methods to Obtain Gimmighoul Coins

Gimmighoul Coins are required to evolve Gimmighoul into Gholdengo.

You can obtain Gimmighoul Coins through the following methods:

  • Sending a Postcard to Pokémon Scarlet and Violet (50 Coins per day)
  • Catching Roaming Form Gimmighoul from the Coin Bag
  • Spinning Golden PokéStops created by Golden Lure Modules
  • Receiving compensation when already holding a Golden Lure Module

Because evolving Gimmighoul requires 999 Coins, collecting them consistently over time is essential.

How to Evolve Gimmighoul into Gholdengo

Currently, only Roaming Form Gimmighoul is available in Pokémon GO. Chest Form Gimmighoul cannot be obtained.

To evolve Gimmighoul into Gholdengo, you need 999 Gimmighoul Coins

Unlike most Pokémon evolutions, Candy is not required. Instead, players must focus entirely on collecting Gimmighoul Coins.

Due to the high requirement, Gholdengo is considered one of the most difficult Pokémon to obtain in Pokémon GO.

Is Gholdengo Good in Pokémon GO?

In the main series games, Gholdengo is considered one of the strongest competitive Pokémon thanks to its signature Ability, Good as Gold, its excellent Ghost/Steel typing, and its signature move, Make It Rain.

Unfortunately, Pokémon GO does not feature Abilities, and Gholdengo currently cannot learn Make It Rain.

As a raid attacker, Gholdengo performs as a solid Ghost-type attacker, but its extremely high acquisition cost makes building one difficult.

Its strongest role in Pokémon GO is in Trainer Battles, especially in the Master League Premier Cup, where its excellent typing and versatile coverage moves allow it to compete effectively against many top threats.

For most players, Gholdengo is primarily a long-term collection goal and a niche but viable Master League Pokémon.
