Articuno Raid Strategy

Type Weakness

The Legendary Pokémon Articuno is an Ice/Flying-type Pokémon, making it 2.56× weak to Rock-type attacks and 1.6× weak to Fire- and Electric-type attacks.

Therefore, bringing powerful Rock-type Pokémon will allow you to clear the raid much more efficiently.

Recommended Party Size

The recommended party size for completing the raid is 1–3 Trainers. Taking advantage of weather boosts can further reduce the raid’s difficulty.

For a faster raid clear, it is highly recommended to take advantage of various bonuses such as Weather Boost, Friendship Bonus, and Party Power whenever possible.

Some of the best raid attackers for Articuno are listed below:

  • Shadow Gigalith – Recommended for experienced Trainers. Its combination of the fast energy-generating Lock-On and the powerful charged attack Meteor Beam gives it exceptional performance in coordinated party play. In groups of three or more Trainers, it delivers the highest damage output among all Rock-type attackers, making it a top-tier choice.
  • Mega Diancie – Generally considered the strongest overall counter. Since it can be Mega Evolved immediately after completing its Special Research, investing Rare Candy into it is often well worth the cost.
  • Mega Tyranitar – One of the bulkiest options available while still dealing excellent damage. Its durability allows it to keep the Mega Evolution attack boost active for members longer, helping the entire raid group finish battles more quickly.
  • Rhyperior – The most versatile non-Mega option. Rock Wrecker is considered mandatory; without it, other Pokémon are usually better choices. Its main drawback is its weakness to Ice-type attacks.
  • Rampardos – Recommended for experienced Trainers. It boasts incredible damage output, but its poor bulk makes it a classic glass cannon.
  • Mega Aerodactyl – A powerful attacker, although its Ice-type weakness can make it difficult to keep on the field. But it shares the Flying type with Articuno, allowing Trainer to benefit from the increased XL Candy chance bonus.

If you’re a beginner, don’t worry—Pokémon caught in the wild such as Sudowoodo, Solrock, Lunatone, Crustle, and Aggron are more than capable of contributing in an Articuno raid.

These Pokémon can all appear at level 30 or higher under Partly Cloudy weather conditions.

If you have friends to trade with, Golem and Alolan Golem are also excellent budget options, as they can be evolved without spending Candy after being traded.
