Introduction to Eevee
In the main series Pokémon games, Eevee is one of the franchise’s most iconic mascot Pokémon alongside Pikachu.
Its popularity is so significant that it was even featured as a starter Pokémon in Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee!.
One of the biggest reasons behind Eevee’s enduring popularity is that each of its evolutions retains its adorable appearance while offering unique evolution methods and battle roles.
This popularity has naturally carried over to Pokémon GO, where Eevee remains one of the most beloved and frequently used Pokémon in the game.
Eevee Evolutions and How to Evolve Them
First of all, it’s important to clarify that Pokémon GO does not have evolution stones like the main series games.
While evolution items such as the Metal Coat, Upgrade, and Sinnoh Stone exist, traditional items like the Fire Stone or Water Stone are not available in Pokémon GO.
Instead, Eevee evolutions fall into three categories: random evolutions, requirement-based evolutions, and nickname evolutions (commonly known as the “name trick”).
Regardless of the method, all Eevee evolutions require 25 Eevee Candy.

Detailed Guide to Eevee Evolution Methods
Random Evolutions
Eevee evolutions can generally be divided into three categories. If you evolve Eevee without fulfilling any special requirements, it will randomly evolve into either Vaporeon, Jolteon, or Flareon.
Unfortunately, there is no way to control which of these three Pokémon you will receive through normal random evolution.
Requirement-Based Evolutions
To evolve Eevee into Espeon, Umbreon, Leafeon, Glaceon, or Sylveon, you must fulfill specific conditions.
For Espeon, Umbreon, and Sylveon, Eevee must be set as your current buddy Pokémon when evolving.
For Espeon and Umbreon, the game determines daytime and nighttime based on the in-game environment rather than a fixed schedule, so the transition times change daily just like in real life.
Leafeon and Glaceon require you to be near an active Mossy Lure Module or Glacial Lure Module attached to a PokéStop before evolving.
The Name Trick (Nickname Evolution Easter Egg)
Finally, Pokémon GO features a special “Name Trick” Easter egg that allows you to guarantee a specific Eevee evolution exactly once per account.
For example, if you want to evolve Eevee into Jolteon, simply rename it to “Sparky” before evolving. The first time you do this, Eevee will always evolve into Jolteon.
However, this method only works once per evolution per account. After using the Name Trick, renaming another Eevee to “Sparky” does not guarantee another Jolteon.
The same applies to Sylveon: by using the nickname “Kira,” you can evolve Eevee directly into Sylveon without having to earn the required Buddy Hearts.
Important Warning
One of the most important things to remember is that if you attempt to evolve Eevee while experiencing GPS issues, particularly when the game displays “Error Code 11,” the evolution may default to a random evolution instead of the intended form.
For this reason, evolving Eevee while riding the subway or in areas with poor GPS reception is generally not recommended.
Best Eevee Evolutions in Pokémon GO
Glaceon
If your primary focus is raids and Max Battles, Glaceon is arguably the best Eevee evolution to invest in.
Outside of Legendary Pokémon and Mega Evolutions, the pool of strong Ice-type raid attackers is relatively limited, with Baxcalibur, Mamoswine, and Glaceon being among the most notable options.
Compared to Baxcalibur and Mamoswine, Glaceon is significantly easier to build while still performing very effectively in raids.
The same logic applies to Max Battles. Since stronger Ice-type Pokémon are expected to arrive eventually, Glaceon represents an excellent balance of accessibility and efficiency for current content.
Umbreon
Umbreon remains one of the most reliable Pokémon in Trainer Battles, especially in the Great League.
Following Mimikyu’s introduction to PvP in June 2026, Umbreon’s value increased thanks to its role as one of the few exceptionally bulky Dark-type Pokémon capable of competing effectively in shield scenarios.
Sylveon
Sylveon is a respectable Fairy-type raid attacker and received a significant boost in PvP during the 2026 “A New Journey” season after gaining Fairy Wind and Shadow Ball.
However, despite these improvements, Sylveon is not considered a top-tier choice in either raids or PvP, making it somewhat less essential than Glaceon or Umbreon.
Other Eeveelutions
Vaporeon, Jolteon, Flareon, Espeon, and Leafeon are all capable of performing adequately within their respective types.
However, compared to Glaceon, Umbreon, and Sylveon, they generally have lower priority for players looking to maximize their resources and long-term value.
