Rillaboom is the final evolution of Grookey and one of the strongest non-Legendary Grass-type attackers in Pokémon GO.
After the January 18, 2026 Community Day, Rillaboom gained access to its signature move Drum Beating alongside Frenzy Plant, significantly improving its raid performance.
Shiny Rillaboom was also released during the event, and Gigantamax Rillaboom is currently the strongest Grass-type Pokémon for Max Battles.
After the January 18, 2026 Community Day, Rillaboom can learn Drum Beating and Frenzy Plant. Drum Beating can be obtained through evolution or a regular Charged TM. Frenzy Plant requires an Elite Charged TM outside Community Day events.

Rillaboom’s signature move Drum Beating deals 115 power in raids and is a 3-bar charged move, but its 4.5-second animation is unusually slow.
In Trainer Battles, it has a respectable 1.71 DPE while always lowering the opponent’s Attack by one stage.

Although Drum Beating uses less energy and is a 3-bar move, its extremely long animation causes it to perform about 4% worse than Frenzy Plant in raids.
However, because Drum Beating is obtainable with a regular Charged TM, it remains an excellent budget alternative for players without an Elite Charged TM.

With Frenzy Plant, Rillaboom’s DPS rivals many Legendary and Mythical Pokémon.
Even a full team of six Rillaboom is more than capable of clearing most raid content.
Note : Razor Leaf has an extremely long animation, making it less effective in Party Play. It performs reasonably well in four-player groups where energy generation is less of an issue, but it is generally not recommended for groups of only two or three players.

Gigantamax Rillaboom is currently the strongest Grass-type Pokémon in Max Battles.
One reason it is expected to remain at the top is that it originates from the Galar region, where overall power levels are considerably higher than earlier generations.
If you actively participate in Max Battles, investing Candy and Candy XL into Gigantamax Rillaboom is highly recommended.
Trainer Battle : PvP Performance
Unlike its excellent raid performance, Rillaboom struggles in Trainer Battles.
Its biggest weakness is Razor Leaf, an extremely slow Fast Move that prevents it from fully benefiting from Drum Beating.
Despite having better overall stats and higher CP than many other Grass-type starters, Rillaboom’s Fast Move severely limits its PvP viability.
Is Rillaboom Worth Building?
Overall, Rillaboom is an outstanding PvE attacker, but only an average choice for PvP.
For raids, it boasts one of the highest DPS values among all non-Legendary, non-Mythical, and non-Mega Grass-type Pokémon. A full team of Rillaboom is more than sufficient for most raid battles, although players seeking absolute optimization may eventually upgrade to Pokémon such as Zarude, Shaymin (Sky Forme), or Kartana.
In Max Battles, however, Gigantamax Rillaboom has virtually no substitute. It is expected to remain the strongest Grass-type Max Battle attacker for the foreseeable future, making high-IV Gigantamax Rillaboom well worth collecting and powering up.
